Design your opt-in

An opt-in turns a one-time website visitor into someone you can actually reach. Four small decisions make it work: the offer, the words, the form, and where it lives. Make them here and watch your opt-in box take shape.

Auto-saving as you go

An opt-in is a trade. Someone gives you their email, and in return they get something they actually want. Your whole job is to make that trade feel worth it, and to make saying yes take five seconds. Work through the four decisions below and your finished opt-in box assembles at the bottom.

One

The offer

What is someone actually saying yes to? Vague invitations ("sign up for updates") convert poorly. A clear offer with a clear benefit converts.

The benefit, in plain words. What lands in their inbox, and why it's worth it to them.
Two

The words

Three lines of copy. Specific and warm beats generic and safe every time. Watch the preview at the bottom update as you write.

Checking your voice…

The promise, short. Speak to one person, the way you'd talk to a friend.
One sentence that makes the offer concrete and lowers the stakes.
Specific and benefit-led. "Send me the weekly note" beats "Subscribe."
Three

The form

Every extra field costs you sign-ups. Ask for the least you need. Email alone is the lowest-friction option. A first name lets you greet people warmly later. Either is fine.

Four

Where it lives

An opt-in no one sees does nothing. Put it where people already are. Pick every spot you'll place it.

The payoff

Your opt-in box

Here is your opt-in, exactly as a visitor would see it. Below it, the spec to hand to whoever builds the form: the offer, where it lives, and what to ask for. You'll handle the form setup in your website builder (the Bonus Tutorials walk through Squarespace and your email tool).

Your opt-in box appears here as you make the four decisions above.
